About

Zachary Norman, LMHC

Zachary Norman is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor whose career began in community crisis intervention, substance use treatment, and forensic mental health in Buffalo, New York. Responding to acute psychiatric emergencies gave him a deep appreciation for the complex ways trauma, environment, relationships, and systemic barriers can shape mental health and human behavior. During this time, Zachary collaborated closely with law enforcement, hospitals, and community organizations to support individuals experiencing significant psychiatric and
emotional distress. His work focused on connecting people with appropriate care while helping reduce unnecessary hospitalization and involvement in the criminal justice system. He also assisted with specialized crisis-intervention training for local law enforcement and worked with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with severe and persistent mental illness and those navigating the legal system.

Zachary later expanded his clinical experience in the Bronx, working with adolescents, teens, adults, and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. His work included supporting individuals and families navigating court involvement, substance use, behavioral concerns, trauma, and complex systemic challenges. This experience further shaped his understanding of how individual mental health is so greatly influenced by family relationships, community environments, and broader social systems.

Since relocating to Florida, Zachary has continued working in both community-based and forensic settings. His specialized experience includes treating court-related and high-risk behaviors, sexual behavior concerns, compulsive behaviors, paraphilic interests, and unwanted or distressing sexual thoughts. He provides a compassionate, nonjudgemental space for discussing concerns that clients may have previously felt unable or afraid to share.

Beyond this specialized work, Zachary provides therapy for teens, adults, and couples experiencing anxiety,
depression, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, emotional dysregulation, substance use concerns, and major life transitions. He has extensive experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and is particularly passionate about helping teens and young adults develop a stronger sense of identity, improve their relationships, and navigate meaningful personal growth.

At the core of Zachary’s practice is the understanding the mental health does not exist in a vacuum. Coping strategies, defenses, and behaviors often develop as ways of adapting to adversity, stress, trauma, or unmet needs. By considering each client’s experiences within the broader context of their relationships, family systems, culture, and environment, Zachary helps clients explore these patterns with compassion and curiosity.

In the therapy room, Zachary cultivates a collaborative environment in which clients feel genuinely heard, appropriately challenged, and empowered to make meaningful changes. He believes lasting growth rarely
comes from a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, it develops through a thoughtful balance of genuine support, honest reflection, and direct but compassionate challenge.

If you are looking for a therapist who will meet you with compassion, curiosity, and honesty, Zachary invites you to reach out.

Whether you are navigating a specific concern or simply recognize that something in your life needs to change, you can schedule an initial session or consultation to explore what support might look like for you.
